The idea

This verse is on mugs and wall art, but David wrote it after being disciplined by God and after victories he couldn't explain. He isn't hyping himself up for the day. He's giving God credit. "This is the day the Lord has made" means the day is God's, not yours to make good or bad. And "rejoice" is a command before it's a feeling. That isn't faking it until you make it. It's a decision to rejoice in the struggle because God allowed it to strengthen you, and in the victory because He gave it, which takes pride out of the picture.

Take it with you

  • Start the day by giving it back to God.
  • Choose to rejoice. Don't wait until you feel like it.
  • When something goes well, remember who did it.

Reflect

What part of today are you tempted to treat as yours instead of His?
