The idea

In Hebrew, "beginning" can also mean rank. The fear of the Lord isn't just step one. It's the most important thing. And fear here means awe, like standing at the rim of the Grand Canyon, aware of how small you are and careful where you step. Knowledge is information. Wisdom is knowing what to do with it, and that includes taking correction. The fool in Proverbs isn't unintelligent. He knows what he should do, is shown a better way, and chooses otherwise anyway.

Take it with you

  • Treat reverence for God as the foundation, not an add-on.
  • Ask whether you're applying what you already know.
  • Be coachable.

Reflect

What correction have you heard lately that you haven't acted on?
