Don't Grow Weary in Doing Good (Galatians 6:9-10)

The idea

Paul tells believers not to grow weary in doing good, because at the proper time a harvest comes if we don't give up. Notice when people actually quit. It's rarely at the start, when everything is exciting. It's in the middle, after the seed is planted and nothing is showing. The "good" Paul has in mind is noble, not just pleasant. And what usually wears us down is people: the same conversation for the seventh time, the same example shown again. We can't control how others respond, and the timing belongs to God. Verse 10 widens the circle: do good to everyone, with special care for the family of believers.

Take it with you

  • Expect the middle to be the hard part, and keep going.
  • Do what's in front of you today and leave the timing to God.
  • You may not know whether this is the twelfth time or the five-thousandth. Keep showing up.

Reflect

Where have you stopped watering something because you couldn't see it growing?
